National Parliament Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chowdhury on Friday urged the law department students of Dhaka University (DU) to put emphasis on learning the practical knowledge beside theoretical study in the completive world.
“By it, the law students could promote intellectual excellent across the country”, she said.
She made the comments at the 31st annual conference of Bangladesh Law Society (BLS) held on the premises of Science Annex Building of DU in the morning.
BLS President Dr. Khan Mohammad Abdul Mannan presided at the function, while the State Minister for Labour and Employment Advocate Mujibul Haque, State Minister for Post and Telecommunication Advocate Tarana Halim, DU Vice- Chancellor Prof AAMS Arefin Siddique, Hosne Ara Begum MP, Molla Abu Kawser and DU Alumni Association President AK Azad Chowdhury addressed the function. The DU VC inaugurated the programme.
Speaker Shirin, who is also the Chairperson of CPA (Commonwealth Parliamentary Association) executive committee, advised the Bangladesh Law Society to give emphasis on imparting professional training to the women lawyers so that they can build them skilled in the respective field.
She also urged the law students to work for the betterment of the country using their practical and theoretical knowledge related to laws and to come forward to work together in translating the Bangabandhu’s dream of ‘Sonar Bangla’ and middle income country by 2021.
She also mentioned that former students of BLS are working in various sectors especially court, administration and law making sector with their talent for the welfare of country.
