Jatiya Sangsad Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury on Monday urged the Chinese government to invest in Bangladesh’s 100 Special Economic Zones.
“Bangladesh is a suitable place to invest in jute, leather, information technology and agro-based industries,” the speaker said while a delegation of the 13th National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) led by its Vice-Chairman Wang Zhengwei called on her at her office.
Welcoming the 16-member Chinese delegation in her Parliament Complex office, Dr Chaudhury said China is a longtime friend and development partner of Bangladesh. “An excellent trade and investment relation between the two countries still persists . . . Both the countries have huge potentials to expand trade and commerce,” the speaker said, stressing on enhancement of relations in days to come.
Referring to different development activities in Bangladesh, Dr Chaudhury said country in the meantime graduated to a developing country from the least developed country under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
“Bangladesh led by Sheikh Hasina is trying to materialize its Vision -2021 . . . Besides, the launching of Bangabndhu-1 Satellite in the space also started a new chapter,” the speaker told the delegation.
Wang Zhengwei assured the speaker of providing continued support to expand the export and commerce here as well as to accelerate the socio-economic development of Bangladesh.
He expressed his firm eagerness to invest in short-term and long-term development projects in Bangladesh.
Meanwhile, the Chinese delegation also called on Deputy Speaker Fazle Rabbi Miah.
