Speaker urges all to work for women’s development

Speaker of the Jatiya Sangsad Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury urged all to come forward to ensure women’s development, saying Bangladesh’s women are delighted in all sectors with their own capabilities.
“If opportunities for them (women) are increased, they will easily move forward with their own capabilities,” she said this on Thursday while speaking as the chief guest at Baishakhi Television Bhaban in the city.
Baishakhi Television accorded a reception for the distinguished women personalities on the occasion of International Women’s Day-2018.
The Speaker asked women to show their capabilities in different sectors, especially national development sector.
“Bangladesh has demonstrated their own talents, labour and competence in different occupations. There is no scope for women to stay behind the initiative,” she said.
Dr Shirin said if women go ahead with their firm passion and confidence, the country will go forward.
Appreciating Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s contribution to women empowerment, she said Bangladesh is now a role model in women empowerment.
Earlier, Dr Shirin greeted the Baishakhi family members by handing over flowers to Deputy Managing Director and Chief Editor of Baishakhi Television Tipu Alam, and inaugurated the programme by cutting a cake.
The private television channel accorded distinguished women personalities, including Bangladesh’s first woman foreign minister (former) Dr Dipu Moni, State Minister for Information Tarana Halim, lawyer and human rights leader Sultana Kamal, writer Selina Hossain, and singer and liberation war-time artiste Shaheen Samad for their great contribution.
Later, the distinguished women personalities expressed their feelings and
experiences at the function.
Chief News Editor of the TV channel Ashoke Chowdhury, News Editor and President of Dhaka Reporters’ Unity Saiful Islam, journalists, presenters and
officials were, among others, present on the occasion.
