Speaker of the Parliament and Chairperson of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury has emphasized child health for facing the key challenge of the development of overall health sector.
“Health sector of the country has achieved tremendous success … Bangladesh has made commendable progress in achieving Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) 4 and 5…there has been a remarkable reduction in maternal and child mortality,” she said.
The Speaker said this on Saturday while speaking as the chief guest at the 19th biennial and 4th International conference on child affairs at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) auditorium organised by Bangladesh Pediatric Association (BPA).
She urged all to create awareness among the people of grass root people to develop the health of pregnant women and newborns.
Dr Shirin said the role of a mother was pivotal in building a healthy nation and the government under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina was very much sincere about ensuring safe motherhood and also pledge-bound to ensure quality healthcare for all.
Professor Dr Mohammad Shahidullah presided over the programme while BSMMU Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Kamrul hasan Khan, Save the Children Country Representative Joy Riggs-Perla were present, among others.
