Speaker of the Jatiya Sangsad Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury returned home on Tuesday night from Japan after attending the ‘World Assembly for Women’ held in Tokyo on September 12-14.
Japanese Premier Shinzo Abe invited the Speaker to attend the conference to exchange views and share experiences with different countries.
Dr Chaudhury praised the Japanese Government for the initiative to increase the percentage of women leadership to 30 per cent by 2020.
Abe expressed his gratefulness to Bangladesh for withdrawing its candidature from the Asia Pacific Group for a non-permanent seat on the UN Security Council.
The Speaker also joined a symposium titled, ‘what should Young Women Think and Do’ at Sophia University on the 3rd day of the visit and attended a meeting with the members of the Bangladeshi Community at the Embassy.
