Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury on Thursday paid tribute to Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and martyrs by placing wreaths in front of Bangabandhu Memorial Museum at Dhanmondi and National Memorial at Savar.
After taking oath as a Speaker of the JS for three consecutive terms on Wednesday, Dr Shirin Sharmin showed the deepest respect by placing floral wreaths at the portrait of Father of the Nation in front of Bangabandhu Memorial Museum at city’s Dhanmondi , said an official press release here.
The Speaker recalled the great leader of Bangladesh while standing there in silence for some time.
Later, the Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury, Deputy Speaker M Fazle Rabbi Miah and Chief Whip Nur-E Alam Chowdhury paid tributes to the martyrs of the Liberation War at National Memorial in Savar.
During this time, she also recalled the four national leaders- who were killed in jail in 1975, 30 lakh martyrs and two lakh war veteran women, martyrs of August 15 in 1975 and all the martyrs who had been sacrificed their lives in all the democratic movement since the language movement in 1952.
Besides, Deputy Speaker Fazle Rabbi Miah paid tribute to the portrait of Father of the Nation.
The newly appointed Whips Mohammad Atiur Rahman Atique, Panchanon Biswas, MP, Iqbalur Rahim, MP, Mahbub Ara Begum Gini, MP, Shamsul Haq Chowdhury, MP and Abu Sayeed Al Mahmud Shawpan, MP, also paid tributes at the portrait of Father of the Nation under the leadership of Chief Whip Nur-E Alam Chowdhury.
“The people have kept confidence on the government through the vote revolution on December 30,” the Speaker said in a reaction adding that the 11th national parliament would become a milestone in continuous progress of the democracy.
“The government will work for fulfilling the expectation and overall welfare of the people,” she added.
Dr Shirin Sharmin said the treasury and the opposition of the 11th parliament will play a pivotal role through constructive discussion, criticism and debating in the parliament to further consolidating the democracy.
