Speaker leaves for Sweden

Parliament Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury left Dhaka for Stockholm to attend the 6th International Parliamentarians Conference begins in the Swedish capital today.
The Speaker is leading a seven-member delegation to the conference, an official handout said here on Tuesday. The members of the delegation included Chairman of Parliamentary Standing Committee on Jute and Textile Ministry Saber Hossain Chowdhury, Chairman of Parliamentary Standing Committee on Industries Ministry Omar Faruk Chowdhury, Fazilatunnessa MP, Fakrul Imam MP, Senior Secretary to Parliament Secretariat Md Ashraful Moqbul and Speaker’s Private Secretary M A Kamal Billlah.
The European Parliamentarian Forum on Population and Development and the Swedish Parliament (Riksdag) have been jointly organizing the three-day conference on the ‘Implementation of the ICPD (International Conference on Population and Development Programme of Action-IPCA-2014)’. Over 500 parliamentarians including members of parliamentary groups in various regions and more than 300 MPs of different various countries, head of states, speakers, cabinet members, members of civil societies and representatives from different UN and international agencies across the world have been joining the high-profile conference.
Dr Shirin Sharmin will address a round table discussion on ‘Bangladesh: Economic benefits of addressing Reproductive Health (HR) issues in any future development agenda’ as the main speaker.
On the sideline of the conference, the speaker will hold bilateral talks with her Swedish counterpart and Swedish foreign minister, the handout added.
