Jatiya Sangsad Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury underscored the need for women empowerment at grassroots level to build a self- reliant nation.
“It is possible to build a self-reliant nation through ensuring women-empowerment at grassroots level in the country,” she said. The speaker came up with the remarks on Tuesday while addressing a public gathering of Bangladesh Women Police Welfare Association as the chief guest at the auditorium of Bangladesh Police in city’s Rajarbagh area, marking the ‘Police Week-2020’.
If the members of Bangladesh Women Police Welfare Association work sincerely for the development of the country, the economic empowerment of women will also increased, she said.
She urged them to march forward towards new sectors of the country with their creative skills.
Later, the Speaker distributed stipends among the students and prizes among the winners of a cultural programme of the association. She also visited different stalls of the association. She hoped women police would play active role in the overall development of the country by discharging their duties with utmost sincerity as massive development has been taken place under the dynamic leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
With association’s President Habiba Javed in the chair, the programme was addressed, among others, by Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) President Rubana Huq.
Women police of deferent levels and senior officials of Bangladesh secretariat were also present on the occasion.
