Jatiya Sangsad Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury on Sunday said all the nations should work together to fight the effects of climate change while it is considered as global problem.
“The climate change is not a problem of a single state. This is a global problem and it has multi-dimensional forms which needed to be solved with involvement of all the nation states,” she said while addressing a two-day South Asian Speakers’ Summit entitled “Way to Achieve Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)” at Indore in India.
“Although the less developed countries are less liable for carbon and CFC emission, subjected to climate change, but these countries are being mostly affected by the adverse effect of the climate change”, she added.
Shirin Sharmin, also chairperson of the executive committee of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA), also urged the developed countries to be more sincere in implementing and executing all the conventions and protocols on climate change in combating its (climate change) effects.
“The plan for achieving SDGs should be mapped out considering the environmental hazards due to climate change,” she added.
Highlighting Bangladesh’s stance in combating effects of climate change, the speaker said, “Bangladesh government under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has launched a climate fund which is a milestone in fighting climate change effects.”
She also said due to adverse effects of the climate change, the yielding of crops (food) being declined tremendously, the crisis of safe drinking water has been increased and the people all over the world become shelter less.
