Speaker calls on President

Jatiya Sangsad Speaker and Chairperson of Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury on Monday made a courtesy call on President M Abdul Hamid at Bangabhaban here.
During the meeting, the Speaker apprised the President of the activities of the recently completed 14th session of the 10th Jatiya Sangsad, President’s Press Secretary Joynal Abedin told newsmen after the meeting.
The Speaker informed the President of various development activities of parliament and especially about the overall preparation of holding upcoming International Parliamentary Union (IPU) conference slated for the April 1 to 5.
Dr Chaudhury informed that as many as 1300 delegates from 113 member countries across the world have already registered for the conference.
“Of them, 48 speakers, 29 deputy speakers and 600 parliament members are taking part in the first ever grand conference here,” she added.
The CPA Chairperson also informed the President that they had a plan to hold the CPA conference here in September next.
President Abdul Hamid lauded the progress of the IPU arrangement saying, “This conference will brighten the image of the country worldwide.”
