UNB, Dhaka :
Officials of the Department of Narcotics Control (DNC) arrested a Spanish citizen carrying more than 3 kg of cocaine at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on Tuesday evening.
The man was identified as Chiases Tjo Julian, 52.
Contacted, Deputy Director of DNC (Dhaka Metro) Mukul Joti Chakma told UNB they had been tipped off that a cocaine consignment was being brought to Bangladesh.
Based on the information, they challenged Julian when he came to Customs hall after completing immigration formalities at around 5:55pm, the DNC deputy director (Dhaka Metro) said.
Julian arrived on an Emirates flight from Dubai that landed around 4:55 pm. Searching his luggage, officials found 3.08 kg of the banned substance inside a packet, Joti Chakma added.
According to information gleaned from his passport, Julian came to Dhaka via Dubai from Sao Paulo of Brazil. The bulk of the world’s cocaine production takes place in South America.
