The government is to take action against the owner of the Spanish eatery of Holey Artisan Bakery for running it without having any approval.
The bakery is well known to the foreigners for its fresh bread called ‘Holey Bread’. The owner of the restaurant used gas without the permission of the Titas Gas Distribution Company, stored cylinder gas to hide the truth when the Titas officials visited it. Basically gas connection was set up illegally for the business purpose.
There was a bar without any license. All kinds of contraband drinks were available there to satisfy their customers. They did not Rajuk’s approval, enjoyed all the facilities of a restaurant and thereby dodged revenues.
Housing and Public Works Minister Engineer Mosharraf Hossain said that actions would be taken against the owner of the restaurant for his unlawful activities. He said this after attending a meeting in his Secretariat on “eviction of illegal structure” in the city’s residential areas.
“The Gulshan restaurant was illegal. They were running the restaurant without taking any license the incident took place. This is first time that an incident like July 1 took place. We shall take stern action against them” he said. The Holey Artisan Bakery was popular to the foreigners, especially the Italians and the Japanese. According to their fondness, the menus of the restaurant were arranged. The foreigners used to go there to have their chosen dishes.
After having food, they spent time on the lawn of the restaurant. As the place was situated in the Diplomatic Zone, they have easy access to have their pets also. Their children used to play on the green ground of the restaurant, while they spent some leisure moment in the restaurant. The restaurant authority never thought about the security of the foreigners. They even did not discuss the security issue with the nearby police station or to the chancery police.
