Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) has finalised its investigation report identifying the husband former police super Babul Akhter as the mastermind and financier in wife Mahmuda Khanam Mitu murder case.
It has been clearly stated in the investigation report that Babul Akhter hired killers for Tk 3 lakh to kill his wife.
Besides, Babul’s police source Musa has been shown as the ‘killing mission’ chief, while a total of seven persons have been made accused in the report.
Sources said SP Babul Akhter hired the killers for Tk 3 lakh to kill his wife. His source Kamrul Islam Sikder Musa led the killing mission. He was accompanied by Ehteshamul Huq Prokash, Haniful Huq Prokash Bholaiya,
Md Motaleb Mia Wasim, Md Anwar Hossain, Md Khairul Islam Kalu and Shahjahan Mia. On June 5, 2016, Mahmuda Khanam Mitu was killed by assailants at the GEC junction in Chattogram while walking her son to his school bus.
Her husband Babul Akhter filed a case with the Panchlaish Police Station. Following the investigation, the PBI gave its final report in the case on May 12 this year. On that day, Mahmuda’s father Mosharraf Hossain filed a case with the Panchlaish Police Station accusing eight people including Babul. Later, the PBI started investigation of the case and found Babul’s involvement in killing his wife.
In the case, Babul Akhter’s father-in-law Mosharraf Hossain alleged that when Babul was working as an additional SP in Cox’s Bazar district in 2013, he fell in love with Gayatri Amar Singh who used to work as a field officer for UNHCR in Cox’s Bazar. Upon learning of the matter, his wife Mitu became extremely upset.
Babul used to torture her physically and mentally at different times as she protested against the affair. Babul was on a UN peacekeeping mission in Sudan from July 2014 to June 2015. At that time Babul’s mobile phone was at his home in Chattogram and Gayatri sent 29 SMSs to the mobile phone, according to Mosharraf Hossain.
The investigation officer of the case said Babul Akhter had planned to kill his wife Mitu in sequel to his extramarital affair with Gayatri Amar Singh.
Process is going to submit the investigation report to the court soon, said the investigation officer.
