South Asia Regional Confce ends at DU

A two-day South Asia Regional Conference on ‘Gender, Rights and Choices: Access to Justice in a Megacity’ was concluded at Dhaka University (DU) on Tuesday.
The Department of Law of the university and Bangladesh Legal Aid & Services Trust (BLAST) jointly arranged the conference at Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Bhaban Auditorium on the campus.
Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain was present on the concluding session of the meeting as the chief guest.
DU Pro-Vice Chancellor (Education) Prof Dr Nasreen Ahmad spoke on the occasion as the special guest.
She urged professionals, lawyers, academicians and social activists to work together to make the country free from gender inequality.
DU VC Prof Dr Md Akhtaruzzaman inaugurated the conference.
The aim of the conference was to share experiences about systems and processes of ensuring access to justice, and understand how multi-sectoral interventions on healthcare, social security, community solidarity building, livelihood and shelter can increase people’s access to justice.
Netherlands Ambassador in Dhaka Leoni Margaretha Cueleneare, eminent jurist Dr Kamal Hossain, senior advisor of Global Legal Empowerment Network Marlon J Manuel, BLAST consultant Faria Ahmad and dean of the Faculty of Law Prof Dr Md Rahmat Ullah, honorary executive director of BLAST Sara Hossain, among others, spoke at the inaugural ceremony of the conference.
