The second ‘South Asia Maritime and Logistics Forum-2018’ is set to begin on October 9 to attract investment in infrastructure and innovation of new technology in the shipping sector. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is expected to inaugurate the South Asia Maritime and Logistics Forum as the chief guest at 4pm on October 9; this was revealed by Shipping Minister Shajahan Khan at a press conference at his ministry.
Shipping Secretary Md Abdus Samad and Director General of Department of Shipping Commodore Syed Ariful Islam, among others, were present at the press conference.
The Shipping Ministry in cooperation with Gateway Media Private Limited and Colombo International Maritime Conference Events (CIMC) organized the two-day forum.
Shajahan said ministers, top officials and investors from the USA, India, Sri Lanka, Singapore, Nepal and Bhutan are expected to participate in the forum.
He said the two-day forum will create opportunities of sharing knowledge and experiences on different issues related to shipping sector among the participants.
While reading out a written speech at press conference, it said a plenary session titled “Investment opportunities and infrastructure development in maritime sector of Bangladesh” will be held on October 9. Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed is expected to join the session as the chief guest. Alongside holding parallel sessions, four business sessions on various topics of maritime and other issues will be held on October 10. A business session on “Logistics and Distribution Track: Cargo transportation, inland water transport, rail and road connection, coastal shipping and transportation and airfreight and e-commerce” will be held on October 10. Prime Minister’s International Affairs Adviser Professor Dr Gowher Rizvi will participate in the session as the chief guest.
