South Africa tasted their 2nd consecutive victory in the Super10 stage beating cricket nation England by 3 runs in a Group-1 match of the ICC World Twenty20 match at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chittagong on Saturday. An opening stand partnership of 90 runs by Hashim Amla and Quinton de Kock helped South Africa to seal the win against England.
Replying to South Africa’s a mammoth 196 runs, England scored 193 for 7 in stipulated 20 overs.
Alex Hales scored the team’s highest 38 runs off 22 balls with six fours and a six before he was caught by David Miller off a Wayne Parnell bowling.
Middle order Jos Buttler made 34 runs from 24 deliveries with two fours and a sixe while Ravi Bopara added 31 runs facing 18 balls with three fours and a six.
Michael Lumb (18), Tim Bresnan (not out 17), Chris Jordan (16), Eoin Morgan (14) and Moeen Ali (10) were the other double digit scorer for England.
Wayne Parnell claimed three wickets for 31 runs in his four overs spell; Imran Tahir captured two wickets for 27 runs also bowled four overs while Dale Steyn and Beuran Hendricks took one wicket each conceding 44 and 50 runs respectively.
Earlier, sent in to bat first, South Africa posted the huge target losing 5 wickets in 20 overs. Skipper AB de Villiers quick-fired an unbeaten 69 runs off just 28 deliveries with nine fours and three sixes and was adjudged man of the match.
In the opening stand, Hashim Amla pairing with Quinton de Kock made a solid foundation of the innings contributing 90 runs in 10.5 overs, before Amla was caught by Alex Hales, off a Stuart Broad delivery.
Hashim Amla scored 56 runs off 37 balls featuring six fours and two sixes.
Quinton de Kock made 29 runs from 33 balls with two boundaries before he was stamped by Jos Buttler, of a James Tredwell delivery, leaving the team total 98 for 2 in 12.2 overs.
James Tredwell, TT Bresnan, CJ Jordan and Stuart Board claimed one wicket each conceding 25, 28, 30 and 33 runs respectively.
