UNB, Dhaka :
The scheduled war crimes trial proceedings could not take place at the International Crimes Tribunal-1 on Thursday as its electronic device for recording evidence failed to operate.
As the tribunal resumed, Justice M Enayetur Rahim, chairman of the three-member tribunal, told both the defence and the prosecution that the recording of evidence through cross-examinations of the prosecution witnesses over the Bagerhat war crimes case will not be possible due to sound system disorder. It may take 2-3 hours to make it operational again, said the chairman, referring to

its IT expert. “At this state of affairs, we can’t proceed; so, the hearing is deferred to Sunday (Dec 21),” he said.
This is for the first time the tribunal’s electronic device bogged down with problems since it has been set up in 2010, according to the tribunal.
Meanwhile, the defence counsel for accused Sirajul Huq known as Kashai Siraj and Abdul Latif Talukder submitted an application seeking to draw contempt-of-court proceedings against investigation officer (IO) of the case ASP M Helal Uddin as he ‘tended to prejudice’ the case of a party before the tribunal.
