Bangladesh’s stylish and attacking batsman Soumya Sarkar wants to settle his position as national opening partner to Tamim Iqbal.
“I have a dream to continue as opening partner with Tamim bhai,” said Soumya, sharing his dream during the Tigers’ fitness camp in Mirpur on Monday.
“When I see that Tamim bhai played more than 170 matches (ODI) and I played only 31, I desire to play like him (Tamim) and so far. I’m learning a lot from him,” Soumya added.
Soumya is now focusing on recovering his strength and working hard at the Tigers conditioning camp at Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) Academy Ground.
Soumya started his career with national side as number 3 batsman on his debut in an ODI match against Zimbabwe in December 2014. He started partnering Tamim during the ICC World Cup 2015. He played 7 Tests, 31 ODIs and 24 T20Is.
The Tigers started their conditioning camp on July 10 ahead of the Test series against Australia at home followed by an away series in South Africa.
The Tigers will continue their camp focusing on fitness development under the fitness trainer Mario Villavarayan until the head coach Chandika Hathurusingha returns to Bangladesh at the end of July.
Australians are scheduled to arrive in Dhaka on August 18 to play two Tests against the Tigers in Dhaka and Chittagong.
After the expected Test series against Australia, Bangladesh will tour South Africa to play two Tests, three ODIs and two T20Is in September-October.
