Sonam Kapoor has always been vocal about women-related issues in the country. Recently, she had raised her voice against rape cases happening in India and when it comes to her own workplace, Bollywood, she is one of those few actresses who raises questions about actress’ remuneration, gender disparity or roles being written for them.
She is hopeful with her next film, Veere Di Wedding, to bring about a change in the roles that are being written for girls. Produced by Rhea Kapoor and Ekta Kapoor, this film is about the friendship of four girls being played by Kareena Kapoor Khan, Sonam Kapoor, Swara Bhaskar and Shikha Talsania. Talking about the film at the trailer launch, Sonam Kapoor said, “Veere Di Wedding is an ensemble film which is about each girl’s journey. Each of us has an equally important story to tell. It’s obviously about Bebo’s character Kalindi, who is getting married and it’s from her perspective and everything like that but it is a story about friendship and it’s a story about girls. I don’t think a film like this has been made before. It has not been made before where it’s entertaining, fun, it got romance, dance, drama, it’s got .” She added further, “And why can’t female headline a commercial film about girls which says something which has a story. Why not? I think this is going to bring about a change. Hopefully, with the support of everyone, this film does well. I hope it brings about a change in the roles are being written for us.”
