Alam Sarowar Tito, Kishoreganj :Miscreants decamped with at least Tk 16 crore in cash from Sonali Bank’s main branch in Kishoreganj on Sunday morning.The miscreants made a tunnel under the vault from an adjacent residential building at Rothkhola area on Isha Khan road of the town and robbed the bank sometime early Sunday. Bank authorities found out about the robbery around 2:30pm yesterday (Sunday) afternoon, Humayun Kabir Bhuiyan , manager of the bank said. The manager’s cell phone is switched off since the detection of the sensational incident. The police are investigating the incident of the bank robbery and looking for the culprits, Anwar Hossain Khan, Superintendent of Kishoreganj Police told the media. The SP said that the length of tunnel would be between 12- 15 feet. The building from where the tunnel has been dug was rented by businessman Sohel, who is missing since the robbery. the police were interrogating employees of the bank and some local people. The interrogation was in progress till the filing of the report at 10 PM. None was however, arrested so far.Sonali Bank, Kishoreganj branch also perform as treasury bank as Bangladesh Bank has no office there. The Bank is on a two storied building. The ground floor of which transacts treasury function while the first floor is used for normal banking business. The building is owned by Principal Moulana Anwar. He lives in another building behind it. The Bank is on the premise for 60 years. However, officials concerned suspect that the actual amount looted could be even more. However, how the incident took place was confusing. Kishoreganj Police Superintendent Anwar Hossain Khan led a team of police deployment and cordoned off the bank following the detection of the incident.
