The son of missing IT professional Ataur Rahman Shahin on Wednesday pleaded to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for her direction on the authorities concerned to take necessary steps for getting back his father.
“Please give back my father to me. He has been missing for two months,” said nine-year-old Tashdeed Aan Nafee, a student of class-four of European Standard School in Dhaka’s Mirpur.
The family members of Shahin talked to journalists in a press briefing held at Sagar-Runi Auditorium of Dhaka Reporters’ Unity (DRU) in the city’s Segunbagicha on Wednesday morning.
Addressing the briefing, Shahin’s pregnant wife Tania Akhtar alias Nilufa said that her husband was abducted by unidentified men from near his office in Tejgaon Industrial Area on May 2 evening.
“Since then, two months have passed and Shahin has still remained traceless,” she said.
“Now every moment seems longer than a thousand years without him. I have a little child and I am also pregnant with our second child now, and in this circumstances, I am living an uncertain life with my husband remaining traceless.”
After Shahin went missing, a general diary was filed with Tejgaon Industrial Area Police Station on May 2 night and later a case was filed with the police station on May 4, she said.
Police found in a CCTV camera footage that several unidentified persons abducted Shahin by forcing him to get in a white microbus.
“I have met with the speaker and deputy speaker of the Jatiya Sangsad, the home minister, and many high officials of police, but no trace of Shahin could be found yet,” Tania said.
“As far as I know, my husband did not have any professional enmity or family feud with anyone. I want my husband back,” she said.
Around 38-year old Ataur completed his education in India’s Bangalore, specialising in software engineering. He used to live with his family in Dhaka’s Mirpur area. He was working as an Assistant Manager at Bengal Glass Company.
Video footages of nearby CCTV cameras show Shahin was taken into a white microbus around 8:05pm on Thursday ( May 2). The car’s number plate was yet to be determined. The vehicle was stationed in front of Akij House since 7:22pm where Atiur went for official purpose.
As he was waiting for a rider of a ride-sharing service, three men were seen shoving him into the microbus and speeding away from the spot. The men shown in the video footage seemed well-built in stature.
Victim’s uncle Saiful Islam filed a missing diary in connection with the incident, said Industrial Police Station Officer-In-Charge Ali Hossain.
