A 28-year old mentally challenged son killed his mother in Keraniganj, on the outskirt of the capital early Friday.
The deceased has been identified as Shahida Huq, 50, a resident of Keraniganj Model Town and hailed from Nesarabad upazila of Pirojpur district.
Police picked up an young man, Tajul Islam Shaon 27, son of one Fazlul Haque.
Shaon told the police that he cut his mother’s throat with a knife, leaving dead on the spot, said Shaker Mohammad Zobair, Officer-in-Charge of Keraniganj Model Police Station.
It has been exposed in the primary investigation that the deceased’s son Shaon is a mentally challenged person, the police official said.
The body was recovered and sent to Sir Salimullah Medical College and Mitford Hospital for an autopsy, he said. Shaon’s brother Jakaria filed a case in connection with the incident, the OC said.
