Son gets life for killing mother in Chandpur

A court here on Tuesday sentenced life term imprisonment to a youth on charge of stabbing his elderly mother to death in her dwelling house in Faridganj in 2015 as she refused to give him money to go abroad.
 The court also fined him Tk 10 thousand for the crime.
The Judge of the District and Sessions Court Md Zulfiqur Ali Khan delivered the verdict in presence of the convict in the afternoon.
 The convicted criminal is Md Shafiqur Rahman,35, and the victim is his 60-year- old mother Alimennessa- wife of Md Shahajuddin-a resident of Aloniya village under Faridganj Upazila.  
According to the case statement, the convicted son Shafiqur Rahman demanded of his mother to give him money to go abroad but his mother declined to give it. At this, being enraged and furious, the son killed his mother in her dwelling room by stabbing her with a sharp weapon early hours at 4 am on 6 September,2015..Hearing her shouts, his father Shahajuddin came into her room from the adjacent room and was taken aback to see her body lying in a pool of blood. Hearing his hue and cry, neighbours rushed and by this time, the old mother Alimennessa died due to excessive bleeding. At once the son fled away. On getting this information, the following morning , Faridganj Thana Police came and rescued the body. Father Shahajuddin filed a murder case the same day. Police enquired into the matter and then arrested the son Shafiqur Rahman as a suspect, who later confessed to the court that he himself had killed his mother.
Faridganj Thana’s Sub Inspector Humayun Kabir investigated the case and submitted charge sheet against Shafiqur Rahman on 3rd November the same year.
 After examining the records and witnesses, the Judge of the District and Sessions Court found Shafiqur Rahman guilty and handed him down the verdict at 2 pm on Tuesday.
Public Prosecutor Alhaj Md Amanullah Mia said, ‘a total of eleven people gave depositions in this case that took three years time to complete’. He was assisted by Assisted Public Prosecutor Advocate Mokter Ahmed Ovi.
