Raihan Sarkar, 11, a six grader at Mohammadpur Model School and College, died of dengue at Square Hospital in Dhaka on Friday.
The boy was admitted to the hospital on Wednesday afternoon with dengue fever. As his condition deteriorated, he was shifted to the hospital’s NICU (neonatal intensive care unit) at about 3.00am.
Just hours after Raihan’s entry to NICU, his sister Maliha Binte Sarkar, 6, also got admitted to the same hospital with dengue virus turning it a complete family tragedy. Maliha got hospital’s same cabin which also was allotted to her brother, the family members said.
Later, awful moments began for the ill-fated parents, as they got nervous with their kids’ fate.
“As Raihan’s condition deteriorated further, doctors put him on life support in the morning (August 1). But the following morning doctor called the parents and sought the permission to put off Raihan’s ventilation support. I asked them to do so realizing that my son is no more,” said Momin Sarkar, father of Raihan and Maliha while narrating the pathetic family tale.
Shocked by son’s death father Momin Sarkar, hailing from Belkuchi upazila of Sirajganj, said, “I never think of such situation in my life… I never believed my son would die. How can I bear the pain of my son’s untimely death? I could not mourn for my son even and now my daughter is also fighting for life. It is really a huge pain for me.”
He also said that Maliha was tested dengue positive three days before Raihan infected with the diseases.
The first Namaz-e-Janaza of Raihan was held at his school ground on Friday afternoon and second one was held at Rahim Metal’s Mosque at Tejgaon before his burial.
Sarkar, who is serving the ACI consumer Brands as the zonal sales manager, said, they are spending every moment with panic as his little daughter is yet to recover from the dengue fever.
