Soumin Sahrid Javin, son of slain Rajshahi University professor AKM Shafiul Islam, on Sunday blamed militants for his father’s killing.
“A militant outfit is involved in my father’s killing. We expect that the government will bring the killers to justice after their arrest,” Soumin, a university student, told reporters after the burial of his father at the family graveyard at Hiatpur village in Gobindganj upazila on Sunday afternoon.
The namaz-e-janaza of Prof Shafiul was held at the Hiatpur Government Primary School ground at 2 pm.
Demanding punishment of the killers, Shafiul’s mother Sakhina Begum said “My son will never return, even then I want immediate arrest and punishment of his killers.”
AKM Shafiul Islam, 40, a professor of Sociology Department Rajshahi University, was stabbed to death by miscreants at Chouddapai near the campus in Rajshahi city on Saturday.
Meanwhile, ‘Ansar Al Islam Bangladesh’, a little-known militant outfit, claimed responsibility for the murder on a Facebook post.
