Sohel, Akter new DUJ President, Secretary

Sohel Haider Chowdhury and Akter Hossain have been elected new President and General Secretary respectively of Dhaka Union of Journalists (DUJ for the session 2022-23. The election was held on Tuesday.
Sohel bagged 724 votes while his nearest rival Sazzad Alam Khan Topu got 690. Akter earned 736 votes while his main rival Md Mehidy Hasan received 642 votes.
Manzurul Ahsan Bulbul, the Chief of the election management committee, announced the results at Jatiya Press Club on Tuesday night.
Meanwhile, MA Quddus was elected Senior Vice -President and Manik Lal Ghosh Vice-President.
Khairul Alam became Joint-General Secretary, Ashraful Islam Treasurer and Zihadur Rahman Zihad Organising Secretary.
The other elected office-bearers are SM Sayeef Ali Law Affairs Secretary, Raju Hamid Publication and Publicity Affairs Secretary, Aman Ullah Aman
Office Secretary, Jubayer Rahman Chowdhury Welfare Secretary, Sakila Parvin Sports Secretary and Suraiya Anu Women Affairs Secretary.
The newly elected Executive Members are Mujib Masud, Dulal Khan, Ibrahim Khalil, Asadur Rahman, Salimullah Selim, Anwar Hossain, Mahiuddin Palash and Rehana Parvin.
Earlier, the polls began at 9:00 am and ended at 6:00pm.
A total 71 candidates contested for 21 posts in this election.
About 2,968 voters cast their votes in the election.
A total three panel competed in the election those were Quddus Afrad-Gazi Zahirul Haque panel, Sazzad Alam Tapu-Akter Hossain panel and Sohel Haider Chowdhury-Mehedi Hasan panel.
