Staff Reporter :
Inspector General of Police (IGP) AKM Shahidul Hoque has said social movement and political commitment are needed to eliminate militancy from the country.
“To make the country militancy free we need system of proper counseling of the youths, technical education, sports, entertainments, debating and creative cultural activities as the killing or arresting the militants is not a solution, he said while addressing a debate competition in the city on Monday.
The debate titled ‘Role of Social Commitment to Prevent Militancy’ was held at Bangladesh Film Development Corporation in the city’s Tejgaon area in the afternoon.
The IGP said, “We have conducted 23 operations so far against militancy. But it has not been wiped out completely due to lack of social commitment.”
“Young generations are being allured to the trap of militancy by using false and incomplete explanations of religion. Creating more social awareness by providing right explanation of religion must continue to grow in the society,” he said.
Urging the common people to create a mass movement against militancy, the IGP also said if there is a lack of political dedication then administration will be inactive.
