Forging social resistance against child marriage and violence against women has become an urgent need for building an equity-based society for the greater interests of taking forward the nation successfully, speakers here in two separate discussions said.
Ensuring safe citizenship for girls through combating all sorts of violence especially sexual harassment against them is very important.
Child marriage and sexual harassment at public places restrict girls’ right to education, right to mobility, right to freedom and right to life. So, the social curse and crime must be eliminated through forging social movement.
They were addressing the discussions titled “Violence against women is the main obstacle towards women improvement”, and “Proper birth registration can resist child marriage” held at Kasiadanga Girls High School and Kuthipara High School respectively under Paba Upazila of the district yesterday.
Students of the schools took part in hectic debate on the issues conducted by their teachers. Light House Consortium and Improved Justice and Legal Aid Services (IJLAS) project jointly organized the debate competitions in association with Center for Effective Dispute Resolution and British Council.
Upazila Education Officer Muktadir Ahmed, Officer-in-Charge of Paba Police Station Alamgir Hossain, President of Paba Press Club Kazi Nazmul Islam, IJLAS Project Coordinator Sana Ullah and Paralegal Officers Muhsina Sultana and Abdul Barik Sarker spoke on the occasion.
The speakers said gender-sensitive social mindset can help establish rights of the adolescents through reducing violence and repression against them.
