State Minister for Posts and Telecommunications Tarana Halim on Saturday said selected social networking sites, including Facebook, will remain closed till it will be considered necessary in the interest of public safety.
She said this at a roundtable titled ‘Mobile devices and its role in national security’, organised by Telecom Reporters Network Bangladesh (TRNB) at a city hotel.
The junior minister further said the popular social networking sites will be
reopened only when the Home Ministry will “ensure social and state security”.
She urged the young generation to think of it as a temporary measure in the interest of public security.
BTRC chairman Dr Shahjahan Mahmood, director general of Bangladesh Customs Intelligence and Investigation Muhammad Zahidul Islam spoke at the programme held with TRNB president Rashed Mehedi in the chair.
