International Anti Corruption Day was observed in a befitting manner in Chapainawabganj on Saturday.
Chapainawabganj District Administration, Chapainawabganj District Unit of Durnity Protirodh Committee and Committee of the Concerned Citizen (CCC), Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB), Chapainawabganj jointly arranged human chain, discussion meeting and cultural function on the occasion.
The human chain was formed in front of Nawabganj Government College. Later a discussion meeting was held on the Nawabganj Government College Shahid Minar premises.
It was held with the CCC member Advocate Saiful Islam Reza in the chair while it was attended by the deputy commissioner of Chapainawabganj Md. Mahmudul Hasan as Chief Guest.
Among others, principal of Nawabganj Government College Professor AKM Manjur Reza, additional deputy commissioner (General) Ershad Hossain Khan, additional superintendent of police Md. Mahbub Alam Khan, president of the Chapainawabganj district unit of Durnity Protirodh Committee Professor Dr. Md. Siraj Uddin and secretary of the same Md.
Mosiul Karim Babu spoke on the occasion.
The concept paper of the day was presented by CCC member Umme Salma Happy.
Speakers in the discussion meeting said, annual growth can be increased by 2 percent and the poverty rate would come down under 10 percent if corruption can be checked in the country.
The speakers added that free flow of information should be ensured to check corruption and increase transparency and accountability in all government and non-government organizations.
They also stressed on people’s role in combating corruption.
Bagerhat Correspondent reports: Under the joint auspices of Bagerhat District Administration, SANAC (Sachetan Nagarik Committee), Bagerhat, Durnity Protirodh Committee, Bagearhat the International Anti-corruption Day- 2017 was celebrated in Bagerhat district town in a befitting manner on Saturday as else where of the country.
The day’s programme started with a human chain formed in front Bagerhat Press Club at 10 am. After the end of the human chain a lively discussion meeting was held in the local Zila Parishad Auditorium at Shaltala with Tapan Kumar Biswas, DC, Bagerhat in the chair. In the meeting the keynote paper prepared by TIB (Transparency International Bangladesh) was read out by SANAC member Prof. Chowdhury. Dr.Mozammel Hossain, MP of Bagerhat Constituency-4 and President of the Parliamentary Permanent Committee of the Ministry of Social Welfare affair while was addressing the meeting as the chief guest he told, corruption is a great hindrance for all kinds of development of a country. The present Government is trying to eradicate the corruption from the country. So, the Government is ceremonially observing the International Anticorruption Day-2017 in a befitting manner. The chief guest added, it is not possible to eradicate the corruption from all the sectors of the country over night. It will take time. I belive, if we all try to make ourselves freed from all kinds of corruptions the mission will be succeed today or to-morrow. He further added each and every family and can play an important role to make our future generations freed from corruptions. The meeting was also addressed among others by Pankaj Chandra Rouy, Police Super of Bagerhat, Dr. Arun Chandra Mandol, Civil Surgeon, Bagerhat, Prof. Mozaffar Hossain, president Durnity Protirodh Committee, Bagerhat, Adv. Mrinal Kanti Das said the present government is very much positive against the social disease and emphasized the need for a concerted effort of all quarters to supplement the government efforts.
He also called for forging a social movement against the malpractice as it undermines economic development, increases poverty, exploitation and injustice, prevents good governance, accountability and transparency and creates social and political instability and insecurity.
Highlighting the laudable steps undertaken by the government in this regard, the other discussants mentioned importance should be given to forging a strong resistance against the corruption along with the corrupt persons.

A discussion meeting was held at the end of the human chain and UNO Abdus Salam Chowdhury chaired the meeting.
