No social media including facebook would be blocked in Bangladesh unless any emergency situation arises, said state minister for posts and telecommunications Tarana Halim.
“We don’t want to block any social media. Never want to block those unless any emergency situation arises,” she told BSS at her office on Tuesday.
The state minister passed the indication after lifting temporary restriction on the social media as well as mobile messaging and calling apps on Monday to eliminate any kind of future dilemma over the social media.
“I want to assure the people of the country that no social communication platform would be blocked in future,” she added.
Earlier, on November 18, the government imposed temporary restriction on facebook, viber, whatsapp and few others apps on security ground. But, temporary ban on facebook was withdrawn on December 10 after 22 days.
Tarana said law and order situation was good during the 26 days of blockade on all social communication platforms and apps in Bangladesh and “no unwanted situation happened in that period.”
But, the government withdrew all the temporary restrictions on all social platforms and apps for the convenience of people, she said.
The state minister again thanked all the people especially young generation for keeping patience on the government’s decision.
