BSS, Rajshahi :
This is the time to address the issues which are decaying society like abuse of drugs, food adulteration and mixing of harmful chemicals with foods collectively.
None should be allowed to engage with the anti-social activities and the people who are doing the malpractices should be brought to book instantly. Political will and commitment has become an urgent need in this regard as government alone or any other single organization isn’t capable to do the same.
The observations came at a discussion styled “Prevention of drugs abuse, food adulteration and mixing of harmful chemicals with food items” held at the conference hall of Deputy Commissioner in Rajshahi today.
More than 60 persons including government and non-government officials and from different sections of the society attended the programme.
Department of Mass Communication (DMC) and Deputy Commissioner Office jointly organized the programme discussing ways and means of how to face the problems.
Deputy Commissioner of Rajshahi Mejbah Uddin Chowdhury and Deputy Director of National Consumers Rights Protection Department Faridul Islam Mazumder addressed the discussion as chief and special guests respectively with Deputy Director of DMC Farhad Hossain in the chair.
Additional Deputy Commissioner (Revenue) Dr Shahriar Firoj, Additional Director of Department of Narcotics Control Abu Bakker Siddique, District Fisheries Officer Golam Rabbani, Deputy Director of BSTI Rejaul Karim Sarker, Freedom Fighter Badiuzzaman Tunu and social worker Jamat Khan also spoke.
The speakers said forging social resistance has become indispensable to uproot the crimes of drug abusing as it’s being adjudged as a grave concern in the society. Around 80 percent of the drug addicts are in the age group of 15 to 30 in the country. So, there is no alternative to adopt measures of anti- smuggling of drugs.
Drugs addiction-free society must be built at any cost to protect people particularly the young generation from deadly aggression of the drugs, they said.
Besides, forging social movement has become indispensable for ensuring safe food for all side by side with their food security. The speakers underscored the need for creating mass awareness to fight food adulteration malpractices by dishonest profit-mongers.
