The present government has been conducting massive awareness building programmes for a healthier and developed nation eradicating social curses and ensuring hygienic sanitation, pure drinking water for citizens.
The information was disclosed yesterday at a documentary film show followed by social awareness building discussion held at Saddyapuskorini village under Saddyapuskorini union of Rangpur Sadar upazila.
District Information Office organised the event under UNICEF-financed Communication for Development (C4D) programme of the Children and Women Development Communication (forth phase) project of the Ministry of Information.
Director (Administration and Finance) of Department of Mass Communication of the Ministry of Information Faizul Haque attended the occasion as the chief guest with Senior District Information Officer Humayun Kobir in the chair. Social worker Alhaj Dr Nabi Nuruzzaman (Bablu), Chairman of Saddyapuskorini union parisahd Sohel Rana and local Awami League leader Mahbubul Islam addressed as special guests.
Documentary films ‘Jadur Pathor’ on hand wash, ‘Joboner Khela’ on sanitation and pure drinking water and ‘Alor Alo’ on child marriage produced by Department of Films and Publications (DFP) of the Ministry of Information were screened on the occasion.
More than 1,000 people of all ages, including women, adolescents, children, students, youths, farmers, day-labourers, civil society members and religious leaders, public representatives and elite of the remote area were present. Humayun Kobir discussed on importance of creating public awareness about hygienic sanitation, cleanliness and pure drinking water, reasons behind water-borne diseases, negative impacts of child marriage, dowry, repression and other social curses.
Appreciating government efforts for creating public awareness on various issues, Sohel Rana called upon the common people to use sanitary latrines, drink pure water and eradicate child marriage for properly educating girl children.
The chief guest said the government had been conducting awareness enhancing activities to achieve more success in reproductive health, sanitation, female education and other sectors for development of children and women to build a middle income nation by 2021.
