Social awareness on maternal-neonatal health services stressed

Building social awareness has become imperative to ensure maternal and neonatal healthcare services for further reducing maternal and infant mortality rates in building a healthier nation.
The views were expressed at the interaction and social awareness building discussion held at Boldipukur Balapara village, inhabited by ethnic community people, under Ranipukur union of Mithapukur upazila here on Tuesday night. At the outset of the function a documentary film was screened on the issue.
The District Information Office organised the programme under the UNICEF-financed Communication for Development programme of the Children and Women Development Communication (fourth phase) project of the Ministry of Information.
Senior District Information Officer Humayun Kobir attended the occasion as the chief guest with Member of ward no-6 of Ranipukur union parisahd Bipin Kuzur in the chair.
Senior Reporter of Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS) Mamun Islam as the special guest addressed the function moderated by Cine Operator of District Information Office Shafikul Islam.
Documentary films ‘Ma’ on healthcare for pregnant women and newborn babies, ‘Sundar Agami’ on sanitation and pure drinking water and ‘Alor Alo’ on child marriage produced by the Department of Films and Publications (DFP) were screened on the occasion.
About 1,000 socially backward ethnic community people of all ages, including women, adolescents, children, students, youths, farmers and day- labourers, civil society members and religious leaders and elite of the remote village were present.
In the interaction session after the film show, the ethnic community people narrated about importance of ensuring maternal and neonatal healthcare, hygienic sanitation, cleanliness and pure drinking water and negative impacts of child marriage.
Humayun Kobir discussed on importance of creating mass awareness about maternal and neonatal healthcare, hygienic sanitation, cleanliness and pure drinking water, negative impacts of child marriage and other social curses.
Journalist Mamun Islam called upon the villagers to take pregnant women to union health sub- centre or community clinics for regular checkups, use sanitary latrines, drink pure water and eradicate child marriage for properly educating their girl children.
Bipin Kuzur thanked the present government for conducting awareness enhancing activities in remote areas to achieve more success in reproductive health, sanitation and female education for attaining the sustainable development goals.
