The panic of snatching incidents is increasing daily in the capital city. Besides, the incidents of robbery, mugging and extortion have also marked a sharp rise in the city and its adjoining areas recently. As a result the anxiety among the city inhabitants has been violating law and order.
According to the RAB sources, around 1309 accused were arrested in 564 drives in the capital city on the charge of snatching, robbery, mugging, Ogyan and dope party last five months.
When asked regarding the recent snatching, robbery and mugging incidents, RAB Media Wing Director Khandaker Al Moin told the New Nation that we have already arrested dozens of snatchers and recovered country weapons as well as poisonous Malom. We are conscious enough to crush such crimes and incidents.
Besides, we have taken some initiatives for monitoring the cattle markets on the occasion of Eid-ul-Azha. Even we are planning to launch various drives to control the gang who generally manufacture the fake notes marking the cattle markets just ahead of the Eid-ul-Azha, RAB officials said.
Meanwhile, according to the DMP’s media wing crime analysis data, about 61 snatching incidents took place in the capital city in last five month.
On 28 June, in the capital’s Pallabi, a snatcher killed a Pathao driver named Raja Mia, 34, by cutting his throat. The incident took place in front of the house No. 149 adjacent to Sultan Mollah School, Block No. 12, Mirpur on Tuesday night. Snatcher was arrested along with his motorcycle at night.
According to the police, the hijacker Kawser hired Raza’s bike in a guise of passenger to go to Gabtali from
Kalshi intersection around 1:00 am in the night.
When the motorcycle reached Mirpur-12, Kawser slit Raza’s throat with an anti-cutter from behind. Then the critically injured Raja stopped his bike and fell to the ground.
Kawser first robbed him of cash and his mobile phone and then rode his bike to Savar, where he was arrested at a police check post, said Parvez Islam, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Pallabi Police Station.
“During interrogation, he confessed to committing the crime. His information helped me recover the body of the biker. The killer is in our custody and the case is in process “the OC said.
Earlier, Dentist Ahmed Mahi Bulbul, popularly known as “Goriber Daktar” for treating the poor free of cost, was stabbed in his thigh in the capital’s Shewrapara area on early March 27. He succumbed to his injuries on his way to the hospital.
