Campus Report :
SN Bose Museum has been opened at the Department of Physics of Dhaka University (DU). Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr AAMS Arefin Siddique inaugurated this Museum as chief guest at a function held on Sunday at the Department of Physics.
Chairman of the Department of Physics Prof Dr Md. Azizur Rahman presided over the function while former professors of the Department Dr Mohtasham Hossain, Dr Harun-or-Rashid, Dr Ajoy Roy, Dr Md. Aminur Rashid, Prof Dr AFM Yusuf Haider, Prof Shamima Chowdhury were present, among others, on the occasion.
DU Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr AAMS Arefin Siddique in his speech recalled the outstanding contribution of late Prof SN Bose to develop physics education and research in both home and abroad. He is well known for his work on quantum mechanics in the early 1920s, the VC mentioned.
He also said, Prof SN Bose was very much close to famous scientist Albert Einstein. The class of particles that obey “Bose-Einstein statistics, boson, was named after SN Bose”, he added.
The VC hoped that the young generation would be encouraged by this museum.
It may be mentioned that SN Bose was a professor of Dhaka University Physics Department. Easy chair, book-self, revolving chair, clock, corresponding letters between Bose and Einstein and many other things used by SN Bose have been displayed in this museum.
