Gold smuggling through Chittagong Shah Amanat International Airport becomes a regular phenomenon recently. Within the span of two days , Chittagong Airport customs seized 127 gold bars worth about Tk.9 crores on Tuesday night and Thursday morning .
Customs sources said, 45 gold bars measuring about 5 kgs worth about Tk.2.30 cr seized from a passenger arrived from Dubai in a Dubai flight on Tuesday night.
Passenger Badiul Alam (32), an expatriate of Dubai arrived in Fly Dubai flight at CSAIA at about 8 pm who hails from Raozan upazila .
After searching his body, customs officials recovered these gold bars from his shoes and bodies. Immigration police detained the passenger. Asstt. Commissioner of Customs Intelligence of Ctg Airport Shahdat Jamil told that sensing the suspected movement of the passenger, customs intelligence officials searched his body and recovered the 45 bars of gold from his shoes and waist , knees .
Meanwhile customs intelligence also recovered 9 Kgs gold bars consists of 82 bars from a passenger of Fly Dubai flight arrives Ctg Airport from Dubai on Thursday morning at about 8 am. The passenger identified as Mohammad Hossain(29) hails from Anowara upazila of Chittagong . After searching his body , customs officials recovered 82 gold bars from him . The approximate cost of the gold bars is about Tk.6.50 crores , customs sources said. Customs sources said while the passenger is passing through green channel , metal detector detects some metal products inside his body and then after recovered these gold bars after checking his body.
