Staff Reporter :’Smuggling of essential medicines from abroad has become a common scenario in Bangladesh in recent times’, opined Sohail Rahman , Joint Commissioner, Dhaka Custom’s House on Sunday morning.The Customs’ officials have ceased around seven crore taka equivalent cancer preventive medicines from Hazrat Shah Jalal International Airport on Sunday. Nobody was, however arrested in this connection till evening.According to Sohail Rahman, medicines equivalent to many crores of taka are landing every year via the three main international airports and other land and sea ports. On Sunday, the smuggled medicines were ceased from the Courier Import Branch of the airport .A criminal group from inside of the airport was trying to release the smuggled medicines when the members of the group were later caught red handed, concerned officials said.
