Smugglers tried to snatch one of their fellows who was arrested by the Border Guard Bangladesh men earlier clashing with BGB at Sadipur Beltala area under Benapole port police station and tried to snatch an accused at around 2:30 am on Sunday.
However, none was hurt in the clash, Lieutenant Colonel Ariful Hoque, commanding officer, 49 Border Guard Battalion told. The BGB official told that smugglers, around 20 in number, equipped with local weapons, attacked BGB men at Sadipur Beltala area under Benapole port police station while the BGB men led by Habilder Yunus Ali were coming to the local BGB camp along with suspected smugglers Monirul Islam, 19 of Lautara under the port police station. ‘
The BGB men detained Monirul along with 100 bottles of Phensedyl from Daktarbari area at around 2am,’ he added. The smugglers fled the scene as the BGB personnel opened 6 rounds of gun shots in the air, the BGB CO added. A case was lodged with the police station in this connection.
