A suspected smuggler was killed in a ‘gunfight’ with members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) at Jamalpur border in Daulatpur upazila early Monday.
The deceased was identified as Haidul Forazi, 24, son of Habu Forazi, a resident of Jamalpur village of the upazila.
Lt Col Rashed Khan, commanding officer of
BGB-47 battalion, said on information that a gang of smugglers numbering 10/15 were entering the border from India with drugs, a team of BGB conducted a drive.
Sensing the presence of BGB members, the smugglers opened fire on them, prompting them to fire back that triggered the gunfight.
After 20-minute gunfight the smugglers fled away and BGB team recovered the body of Haidul.
The team also recovered a LG, five-rounds of bullet and eight packets of hemp and several bottles of phensidyl.
