Forces of the Forest Department in a drive last night recovered a covered van loaded with smuggled timbers from Red Crescent Hospital area under city’s Khulshi thana.
On secret information, a patrol team of Forest Department signaled a covered van to stop, however, the driver tried to escape with the truck defying the signal, said Sayed Mohamud Ullah, Range officer of Chittagong north division Forest Department.
Later, the van driver parked the van in Veterinary university area and fled the scene.
The forest officers recovered nearly 800 cubic feet of smuggled tick timbers worth about Taka 20 lakh after searching the covered van, sources said.
The timbers along with the truck had been kept at Kalurghat depot of the Forest Department, he said.
