SMEs vow to work for country’s development

Small and medium entrepreneurs (SMEs) in the country’s agro processing sector have pledged to process food keeping in mind the economic development of the country as well as health issue of consumers.
They made the commitment while speaking at an award giving ceremony in the city Wednesday.
Bangladesh Agro-Processors’ Association (BAPA) organized the event to recognize SMEs who took part in a competition titled Preparation of Successful Business Plan across the country.
A total of 35 persons had been awarded on the day among them eight persons got Tk 80,000 each for outstanding performance while 12 persons got Tk 50,000 for good performance, another three persons had been given Tk 10,000 and 12 persons Tk 5,000 for successfully writing the proposal as reward of the competition.
The money will be used in enhancing capacity of the recipients’ existing business and help newer one to start his/her business.
The award winners SMEs appraised BAPA for its effort saying that by taking training from BAPA they become self-reliant. Now they know how to apply to Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institution (BSTI) and other government agencies for getting certificate and some of them already achieved certificates from different authorities as recognition of their business. BAPA has made us capable in running own business, the participants pointed out.
The participants also expressed the hope that the BAPA will continue its effort in developing country’s agro-processing sector.
In this connection, a workshop was also organized on the day.
Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Industries and Project Director of INSPIRED Mr. Sushen Chandra Das was present at the workshop as the chief guest while Resident of BAPA Fakhrul Islam Munshi presided over it. Prof. Mr. Ahmed Ismail Mostafa, former chairman of BCSIR was present a the guest of honor and Deputy Secretary of the Ministry of Industries and Deputy Project Director of INSPIRED Mr. Khairul Kabir Menon, Adviser of BAPA Prof. Moslem Ali, Team Leader of Bangladesh INSPIRED Ali Sabet were present as the special guests.
In his address, the chief guest said that to achieve the target to become middle income country by 2021 and developed country by 2041 is not possible without coordinated efforts of all. Agro sector is now a vibrant sector. All of us should give emphasis on it. He advised all the winners to implement their idea in respective sector.
”If you inform others they will feel encourage starting a business at his own,” the chief guest mentioned. None become successful without hard labor. So, if you want to be successful in your business life please work hard, sincerely and honestly.
President of BAPA, ensured that BAPA will continue their support when project will be closed, assured the SMEs as reply of their suspecting request that after closing the project who will provide support as they are getting now.
