Smart City Week begins in city on Nov 22

A week-long event will begin on November 22 in the capital city to make people aware about developing a smart cities and the ways of living there.
UNDP Bangladesh, Access to Information (a2i) Programme at the Prime Minister’s Office and urban sector stakeholders are jointly organising the event styled Smart City Week 2017.
The event will continue till November 28 at the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Novo Theatre here.
Having focused on building people-centered cities by not only investing in technology and infrastructures alone, but also engaging smart people who care, respect and pay values to the society, the Smart City Week will be a part of ‘Smart City Campaign’, an UNDP press release said.
The campaign under the slogan ‘co-creating cities’ will include a three-day “Smart City I nnovation Hub” and a range of events like hackathon, roundtable discussion, photo exhibition, kite festival, citizen’s forum, “City Day”, children’s art competition and many more.
A cycle rally with the theme ‘Ride Smart, Live Smart’ will also be organised on 18 November to kick off the campaign.
All these events will be showcasing innovative ideas that make cities people-friendly and contribute towards urban development by offering affordable and efficient services.
This is first of its kind event, where government and non-government agencies, city corporations, municipalities, public and private universities, urban experts and social entrepreneurs will come under one roof to present their views and plans for developing smart cities.
Partner organizations for “Smart City Week 2017” include government and non-government organizations working on urban issues, BUET, Bangladesh Institute of Planners (BIP), Bengal institute of Architects, Landscapes and Settlements, Preneur Lab and other participating social organizations.
