Barishal river port authorities restricted plying ML (motor launch) type water transports up to 65 feet in length in 13 local routes of 9 long inter district routes of Barishal region until further order.
The step was taken after weather department asked river-port authorities to hoist cautionary weather Signal No. 2 from Wednesday morning following the low created over North Bay and adjoining area persists.
Under its influence, deep convocation is taking place over the coastal region. Fishing boats and trawlers asked to take shelter in safe place till improvement of weather, said Barishal divisional weather office sources.
Shahidul Islam, Assistant Director Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority, Barishal office, said river-port authority stopped plying motor launches less than 65 feet length due to adverse weather and rough river condition in the region since Wednesday morning.
Triple-deck long route water transports asked to operate cautiously and regular contacting weather office for update of weather condition, BIWTA official added.
The city-sky became partly cloudy all over the day with light to mid ranged raining with breaks.
Road communications with Bhola, Patuakhali, and Kuakata tourist zone often disrupted as ferry gangways went under water and bad conditions of connecting roads enforced to suspend ferry operations.
Abdur Rashid, Official of Cyclone Preparedness Programme (CPP) of Barishal Red Crescent Unit, said regular wireless contact with their units on different shore, offshore, coastal islands and shoals, are maintaining.
They informed that conditions of river estuaries and sea were very rough with high waves and strong tides and gusty winds since morning.
