SM Sultan’s art and philosophy discussed

Master artist SM Sultan’s philosophy and artistry was discussed at a conversation at Daily Star-Bengal Arts Precinct in the city’s Karwan Bazar area recently.
The discussion session was a part of Second Sight, an exhibition of selected artwork by SM Sultan, from the private collection of Abul Khair, Chairman of the Bengal Foundation.
The conversation took place among three people who knew the artist well at different times of his life.
Enam A Chaudhury, noted art collector, Mahbub Jamil Shamim, chief of Jessore-based art organisation Charupeeth; and Jeevan Mozai Safori, an artist from Jessore, talked on the philosophy and artistry of SM Sultan.
In thes discussion, Enam A Chaudhury recalled some of his memories with Sultan. He also talked about Sultan’s exhibitions that took place in Jessore and Khulna.
He believes that Sultan wanted to explore the world and was not attracted to fame or a degree.
Mahbub Jamil Shamim had Sultan as his teacher. He knew Sultan very closely and spent a lot of time with him. Shamim had an interesting observation on Sultan’s philosophy.
The exhibition Second Sight was wrapped up on July 13. n
