The 98th birthday of renowned artist SM Sultan is being celebrated in a befitting manner at his birthplace in Narail today (Aug 10). Sultan was born at Masumdia in Narail on 10 august, 1924. He died in Jashore Combined Military Hospital on 10 October, 1994.
The SM Sultan foundation and district administration have jointly organized elaborate programmes to mark the famous artist’s birthday. The programmes include Quran Khani, Dua and Milad Mahfil, art competition and discussion on Sultan’s life and works.
Sultan was adorned with Ekushey Padak in 1982, Bangladesh Charu Shilpi Sangsad Award in 1986 and Swadhinata Padak in 1993.
He was declared the Man of Asia in 1982 by Cambridge University and Bangladesh government declared him as resident of artist in 1984.
