‘Sleep disorders may cause heart attacks’

Terming the Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA) a serious health problem, experts have warned that the sleep disorders, including snoring, may become a cause for severe health hazards like cardiovascular diseases, hypertension and diabetes.
“Sleep is a basic biological need that is essential for health, performance, safety and quality of life…but about 5-9 percent of urban population is suffering from OSA with symptoms like snoring, day time sleepiness, obesity,” Prof M Ali Hossain, a professor of Respiratory Medicine at National Institute of Diseases of the Chest and Hospital, told a press briefing.
