Slaughter grounds fixed for sacrificial animals

Shah Alam Nur :The government has fixed specific places for slaughtering sacrificing animals on the Eid day in the capital to avoid pollution and dirtiness.The slaughter of sacrificial animals will be limited to 535 designated spots in the Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) and the Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC).DSCC has fixed 327 places and in DNCC 208 spots.Mainuddin Ahmad, a high official of West Management Department of DNCC said, the city residents have been requested to slaughter sacrificial animals at fixed spots in city corporation areas of DNCC during forthcoming Eid-ul-Azha.He said, the number of slaughtering spots might rise, but no one would be forced to use those designated places to slaughter animals.He said that the slaughter places had been fixed because every year animal waste and blood pollute cities’ roads and playgrounds.”To raise awareness among city dwellers, the authorities concerned, including councillors of each city corporation, will campaign about the matter from three days before the Eid,” he said.The designated slaughtering grounds will have butchers and cleaning staffs. Moreover, an Imam will be available for each spot that will slaughter sacrificial animals.Last year, the DSCC arranged only two slaughterhouses at Hazaribagh and Kaptan Bazar, while the DNCC operated three slaughter grounds at Mohammadpur, Mirpur 11 and Gulshan kitchen market. Rashedur Rahman Russel, Inspector of Waste Management Department of DSCC said, they have requested all concerned to dispose remains of sacrificial animals properly during the upcoming Eid-ul-Azha.He made the request to all to take care of environment during the Eid so that others do not suffer for pollution caused by poor disposal of waste and remains of sacrificial animals.The environment and forest ministry asked the government and non-government organisations and all others concered to take necessary steps and to motivate the people to follow due process to dispose the waste during the festival.The government decided to publish and distribute some 200,000 leaflets across the country to inform the people about the ways to dispose remains of sacrificial animals in an environment-friendly manner.The ward commissioners will supply jute bags in their areas to facilitate the people.
