Bangladesh lost to Sri Lanka by 215 runs in the second and final Test on the third day at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in the city’s Mirpur on Saturday.
Earlier, Bangladesh settled for a draw with Sri Lanka in the first Test at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chittagong on February 4.
By virtue of Saturday’s victory, Sri Lanka clinched the two-Test series 1-0.
Electing to bat first, Sri Lanka made 222 runs in the first innings on the first day (Thursday).
In reply, Bangladesh scored 110 runs in the first innings on the second day (Friday).
Later, Sri Lanka made 200 runs for the loss of eight wickets before the bails were drawn on the second day.
Roshen Silva and Suranga Lakmal resumed their over-night score with 58 and seven runs respectively.
Left arm-spinner Taijul Islam bowled out Lakmal for 21 when Sri Lanka’s total was 226 for the loss of nine wickets.
Then Taijul trapped leg before wicket Rangana Herath for a duck when Sri Lanka’s score was 226 for all.
Roshen Silva remained unbeaten with 70. Earlier, Roshen hit 56 in the first innings. He was adjudged the Man of the Match for his consistent batting performance. He was also adjudged the Man of the Series.
Taijul finished his second innings bowling spell as 19.5-2-76-4.
Needing 339 runs to win, Bangladesh were all out for a meager 123 in the second innings on the third day.
Mominul Haque fought back against the tight and controlled spin bowling attack of the islanders. Akila Dananjaya captured five wickets at the cost of 24 runs, while Rangana Herath claimed four wickets instead of 49 runs and Dilruwan Perera got one wicket for 32 runs.
Mominul made 33 from 47 balls featuring three fours.
Bangladesh had a sorrow start as opener Tamim Iqbal (2) was trapped leg before wicket by Dilruwan Perera when Bangladesh’s score was just three runs.
Opener Imrul Kayes and Mominul Haque repaired the damage adding together 46 runs in the second wicket stand before Kayes (17) was caught behind by wicketkeeper Niroshan Dickwella off Herath when the team’s total was 49 for the loss of two wickets.
After Imrul’s dismissal, Bangladesh batsmen failed to make any notable partnership.
One-down Mominul Haque was caught behind by Dickwella off Herath when Bangladesh’s score was 64 for the loss of three wickets.
Third-down Liton Das (12) was caught at the forward short leg by Kusal Mendis off Dananjaya when Bangladesh’s total was 78 for the loss of four wickets.
Fourth-down Mahmudullah Riyad (6) was caught at the first slip by Dimuth Karunaratne off Dananjaya when the hosts’ total was 100 for the loss of five wickets.
Second-down Mushfiqur Rahim (25) was stumped out by Dickwella off Herath when Bangladesh’s total was 102 for the loss of six wickets.
