Sramik Karmachari Oikya Parishad (SKOP) leaders on Tuesday demanded for a proper amendment to the labour law protecting rights of the workers.
In a press briefing at the National Press Club, they urged the government to introduce a democratic labour law changing the ‘undemocratic parts’ of the law to ensure justice for the country’s labourers.
Naimul Ahsan Jewel, joint coordinator of SKOP said, the proposed amendments would hamper the workers’ trade union rights. He said, according to the draft of the amendment, the factories would be allowed to form trade unions with the representation of 20 per cent of workers instead of 30 per cent in the present law.
